“Nature uses only the longest threads to weave her patterns, so that each small piece of her fabric reveals the organization of the entire tapestry.”

- Richard Feynman

Our Goals for this program span from environmental education to habitat protection:

1) Develop an effective monitoring program to assess amphibian population change in Loudoun over time.

2) Provide early warning of declines in population size or occurrence of frogs, toads, salamanders and newts.

3) Promote public involvement in protection of amphibians and their natural habitats which include both forests and wetlands, especially the ephemeral vernal pools that are most often overlooked.

4) Educate citizens about amphibians and their role in the ecosystem through environmental education workshops, publications and field trips throughout Loudoun county, Virginia.

5) Be a resource for regional and national organizations tracking amphibian populations.

6) Identify and classify individual species that are present in Loudoun while learning and teaching about their lifecycles.

7) Understand current conservation concerns and identify activities to reverse negative trends such as habitat loss.
