What do Site Survey volunteers do? •Monitors visit a single site (their home property or a public property) and apply a variety of observation techniques: direct observation, frog call census, egg mass survey, cover boards.
When and how often do we conduct the runs? The more data we gather the better. So, ideally you would monitor every other week (15 times) from February 15 through August 15 and once in November. However, we know people get busy, so the minimum is once during each of the 4 peak periods (4 times), shown in the table to the right.
What Time of Day is the Site Survey done? This depends largely on the types of techniques being used. If monitoring every other week, you may want to vary your times in order to apply different techniques.
Hop in and start monitoring! If you'd like to become involved in the Site Survey monitoring, please fill in the volunteer form. All levels of experience are welcome. Training materials will be provided. This track of the monitoring program can also be done in teams to better enable the bi-monthly monitoring or by school groups as long as care is taken to respect the amphibian's habitat and the fact that we're trying to observe them during their critical time, their breeding period.
