“No bird soars too high if he soars on his own wings.”

- William Blake

About the Count:
The National Audubon Society has been conducting the Christmas Bird Count since 1899. These surveys are held in all parts of the country at the same time of the year. The goal of the count is to gather data that will help us better understand bird populations and trends. LWC has been coordinating the Loudoun County Christmas Bird Count since 1997.

Logistics of the Count:
A few weeks prior to the count, we send out an announcement to members and non-members alike who would like to participate in the count. Teams are formed and participants keep a tally for the sector in which they are counting.

At the end of the day, we hold a “Tally Rally” dinner as a thank you to participants as well as to have a time to share experiences from the day.

Beginner and experienced birders are all welcome! Join us for a few hours or a full day.
