The Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship (BRCES) was founded in 2000 by the Robert and Dee Leggett Foundation. It is 895 acres of diverse habitat consisting of vernal pools, meadows, streams and wonderful forests and it serves as a wonderful sanctuary for Loudoun wildlife.
There are historic cabins and homesteads on the property in addition to a community farm. We always enjoy a diversity of birds on our Birding the Blue Ridge Center bird walks. We see a wide variety of butterflies here as well, including the checkered skipper.
Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy also maintains two great and prolific bluebird nestbox trails at the Blue Ridge Center.
You can read through field trip reports from our walks at the Blue Ridge Center on our blog.
The Blue Ridge Center is an amazing place to walk through over 10 miles of well marked trails, photograph wildlife, explore archeological sites and even enjoy the bounty of vegetables from the working farm.
Take a morning or afternoon to go for a nature walk, do some birding or hiking through the wonderful trails. A variety of environmental workshops and activities are offered. |
