Claude Moore Park hosts 357 acres in eastern Loudoun in Sterling, Virginia. While not all of it is passive in use, there are a number of wonderful nature trails, the longest being 3.5 miles long, and natural areas that include wetlands, meadows and forests.
Enjoy walking or hiking through the nature trails or birding along the wetlands and fields. We've often seen a variety of herons here in the morning as well as other special bird species and have held some great butterfly and dragonfly walks here too. In addition to our field trips to Claude Moore Park, we also maintain the bluebird nestbox trail.
Vestals Gap Road, a trail that runs through the park, was once a route used by Indians to go between Alexandria and the Shenandoah.
Be sure to visit the Frog Shackle while at Claude Moore Park. This special cabin holds a terrific collection of animal and plant specimens as well as hands-on activities for learning about and exploring nature. Muriel Spetzman, a long-time member of Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy, set up these collections and is an incredible wealth of knowledge.
The park staff at Claude Moore offer a variety of environmental education programs and classes for families and children.
