We need the tonic of wilderness, to wade sometimes in marshes where the bittern and the meadow-hen lurk, and hear the booming of the snipe; to smell the whispering sedge where only some wilder and more solitary fowl builds her nest, and the mink crawls with its belly close to the ground.

- Henry David Thoreau

A Great Place

Rust is run under the stewardship of the Audubon Naturalist Society. It's located in the heart of Leesburg and has 68 acres of wonderful open space.

Rust has a number of beautiful walking trails that run through forests and meadows. There is a large pond as well as a very unique upland woodland pond. Behind the house are gardens and a labyrinth for meditation.

Cliff Fairweather is the lead naturalist at Rust. He brings an incredible wealth of knowledge and expertise for living with wildlife and understanding the natural world.
