Overview of the Internship Program
The purpose of the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) internship program is too provide a means for educating a high school or college students in environmental issues that impact Loudoun County.
Intern(s) will assist LWC in collecting data, writing reports, updating materials for current programs, providing on-site support on field trips, etc. for LWC’s various programs including the amphibian monitoring program, butterfly monitoring, stream monitoring, summer camp, and the LWC annual meeting. Intern(s) will assist with LWC’s public outreach campaign by attending fairs and helping prepare materials. Interns will provide support to the various LWC committees including Membership, Public Outreach, Programs, Publications, and Public Relations as requested. Interns are also encouraged to develop their own program or develop an idea for LWC to broaden its outreach to the community. The LWC internship provides learning and training opportunities to:
- Advance your knowledge and understanding of environmental issues.
- Develop research capabilities, technical, field and leadership skills.
- Apply knowledge learned in the classroom to real world environmental challenges.
- Be guided and mentored by environmental professionals.
- Benefit from the opportunity to network with LWC volunteers and the greater Loudoun community.
- Explore career possibilities you may not have previously considered.
Requirements
- The intern should be available at minimum 20 hours per week from May 15 through August 15 to support the LWC organization.
- The intern should be pursuing a degree in an environmental career including, for example, biology, environmental policy, environmental management, horticulture, etc.
- The intern will participate in a face-to-face interview with two LWC staff for consideration.
- Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter detailing the skills they’ll bring to the LWC internship program as well as how the program will enhance their education and relate to their chosen career.
- Two references (preferably employment).

- Upon receipt of your application form and resume, we will contact you to schedule an interview
- Intern(s) will be selected and notified by March 31
