As we head into March, so too do Wood Frogs, Jefferson Salamanders and other vernal-pool-class-mar-5-2005-jefferson-salamander-251wonderful woodland amphibians start to stir and prepare for their journeys to the vernal pools where they’ll spend just the briefest time to mate, lay their eggs and then return to their forest domiciles.

Vernal pools are amazing and very special habitats. Throughout March we not only kick off our new season for amphibian monitoring but we also celebrate and investigate our vernal pools and the very unique animals that use them.
