Where were all the butterflies?

Just came across this You Tube video by Pat Sutton, helping to answer this question of “Where were all the butterflies?” this year:
Pat Sutton talks about butterflies
I too have been wondering where are all the butterflies. I have been enhancing my numerous butterfly gardens for 5 years. This year my gardens peaked full of beautiful butterfly friendly plants and flowers. But my butterfly population was slim–only about 5 monarchs, one monarch caterpillar, and just a few swallowtails. I did get lots of sulphurs, fritillaries, moths, bumblebees, honey bees and other flying bugs.
I guess the “build it and they will come” philosophy didn’t work this year. Let’s hope they will come back next year.
