The night was cloudless and absolutely without wind…
the butterflies slept on, and on, and on, with wings tightly folded together
until the rays of sun fell upon them the following morning,
and then…as if touched with a magic wand,
the mighty colony…wafted into the air.
- Jennie Brooks,
written in 1907 upon observing a migration of Monarch butterflies roosting in a tree

Thursday it was soooo windy here in SW VA- yet a painted lady and two Monarchs hovered and held onto my tall zinnias. I thought, “If people often only had the courage of butterflies.” How they held their delicate “own” against the wind with probiscus in the flowers amazed me. May you find the courage of the butterflies when you need it!
