Stream Monitoring
Join the Stream Team to help gauge local water quality by surveying aquatic organisms living on the stream bottom. No experience necessary.
April 6, 9:00am-12:00pm – South Fork of Catoctin Creek in Waterford. Rain date is April 20. 5 Volunteers needed, ages 12 and up. Learn more and sign up.
April 7, 10:00am-1:00pm – Tuscarora Creek, Olde Izaak Walton Park in Leesburg. Rain date is April 14. 2 Volunteers needed, ages 12 and up. Learn more and sign up.
April 20, 2:00-5:00pm – Black Branch, South of Leesburg. 2 Volunteers needed, ages 12 and up. Learn more and sign up.
April 6, 9:30am-12:30pm – Work Day at JK Black Oak
Join us for the first work day of 2024 at JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary in Lucketts. We’ll be removing invasives (some with thorns) from the edge of the meadow where the ground may be wet and muddy. 20 Volunteers Needed (minimum age 16). Registration Required. More info and Register
April 13 – Native Plant Sale
Shop for all your favorite plants and volunteer to help. The first shift is filled, but there are still two volunteer shifts to choose from:
8:45 am to 12:15 pm – Attendee counter, parking assistance, plant vendor helpers, knowledgeable plant people, LWC table assistance, etc.
Noon to 3:30 pm – Same as above plus help breakdown and pack things up if you can.
We will contact you to arrange shift time and duty. 50 Volunteers (adults and teens only) needed. Learn more and sign up.
April 20 and 21 – Leesburg Flower and Garden Festival
Join us at this popular event in downtown Leesburg. Sign up to help us sell merchandise and talk to everyone about LWC programs. Three shifts available each day: 9:00 am to noon, noon to 3:00 pm, and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. No prior experience required — we provide on-the-job training. 9 Volunteers needed each day. May 11, 9:00am-12:00pm – Work Day at JK Black Oak
Join us as we continue work on the meadow restoration project at JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary in Lucketts. The ground may still be wet and muddy, and you may encounter briars, so please dress appropriately. 20 Volunteers Needed (minimum age 16). Registration Required. More info and Register
May 11 – Big Sit at Algonkian Park
Enjoy the beauty of the Potomac River while you talk to park visitors about Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy. The information booth will be set up near the Big Sit Count Circle, so you can encourage visitors to join the circle and learn more about birds. Shift choices are: 8:00 am to 11:00 am, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. We will contact you to arrange shift time. 10 Volunteers needed. Sign up to volunteer.
Can you ID birds? If so, reach out to Allison Gallo at agallo@loudounwildlife.org to help count birds from the Big Sit Count Circle.
June 2 – Annual Meeting
Join us for the Annual Meeting at Ida Lee Park and help with the following activities: check-in, merchandise sales, information table and snack setup. Volunteers are needed to help with setup beginning at 1:30 pm. We will take a break during the meeting and then resume with cleanup from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. 9 Volunteers needed plus someone to take photographs. Sign up to Volunteer.
June 7 – Milkweed Sale Preparation
Help cut apart milkweed plant pots in preparation for the Milkweed Sale. This “cutting party” will take place at Watermark Woods native plant nursery in Hamilton. We will begin at 10:00 am and should be done by noon leaving plenty of time to shop afterwards. 5 Volunteers needed. Email volunteer@loudounwildlife.org to sign up.
June 8 – Milkweed Sale
Help sell milkweed plants at the Milkweed Sale at Northwest Federal Credit Union’s Leesburg branch. Hours are from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. 8 Volunteers needed. Email volunteer@loudounwildlife.org to sign up.
June 8 – Loudoun Appalachian Trail Festival
Join us at this fun festival in Hillsboro to talk to people about our programs and play the popular Scat and Tracks Match Game. There are three shifts to choose from: 9:30 am to noon (includes setup), noon to 3:00 pm, and 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm (includes breakdown). We will contact you to arrange shift assignments. 9 Volunteers needed. Sign up to Volunteer.
Bluebird Monitoring (Open Until Filled)
We have monitor openings on Bluebird Trails in South Riding, Purcellville, Lovettsville and Sterling. Training is provided and trails are organized so that each person monitors one time a month. Positions filled on a first-come first-served basis. Complete the Nestbox Monitoring Registration form and we will be in touch soon.
